Garden of the Sleeping Giant — Nadi Orchid Garden Entry (63 chars)

Tucked into the foothills of the Sleeping Giant mountain, this is the garden the late actor Raymond Burr planted in 1977 for his own orchid collection — and it has been growing ever since. Raised timber boardwalks carry you through shade houses packed with thousands of orchids, then out along forest paths, past lily ponds and a quiet lookout where the whole valley opens up in front of you. It is an easy, unhurried walk, mostly flat and mostly shaded, and it takes about an hour and a half if you stop to look properly. At the end, sit down in the open-sided pavilion with a glass of chilled tropical juice on the house. There is one price for everyone, locals and visitors alike, and you can simply turn up — no booking needed. Open every day, 9am to 5pm.
